I came across this abandoned mill when I was on a hike in a thick scrub oak forest way back in high school. The spooky feeling has stuck in my mind ever since. So I decided I needed to paint it from memory. I remembered both blue jays and magpies flying around it as if defending it from me.They had taken ownership of it.
